Warley Town School

Attendance

This year our Attendance target is 97%

Regular monitoring of pupil attendance  considers:

  • Pupils with attendance between 100% and 97% - Good attendance
  • Pupils with attendance between 96.9% and 90.0% - Worrying
  • Pupils with attendance below 90% - Significant concern

A child with attendance below 90% is persistently absent from school.  These children will be monitored closely and strategies implemented to improve attendance.  Where no improvement is seen a Penalty Notice may be issued.

Children make the best progress at school through regular and punctual attendance. Absence or arriving late can mean your child misses important teaching and learning and can result in them feeling unsettled. If your child is absent please contact the school by telephone on the first day of their absence. Please let the school office know in advance if your child has a medical or dental appointment.

Holidays in Term Time

Families are required under the Education Act (1996) to ensure that children attend school regularly. Head teachers are no longer able to grant leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.

If you wish to take your child out of school, you should request permission from the Headteacher. An application form can be downloaded from our website or obtained from the school office.  Any absence that the school is unable to authorise will have to be recorded as unauthorised on your child’s school records. The Local Authority does have the right to fine parents who remove their child from school during term time.

For further information please visit the DfE website: www.education.gov.uk and search attendance.

Punctuality

Please be punctual. The school bell rings at 8:50 am when we expect all children to be at school.
